On April 21st, 2014, members and supporters of Local 863 will be participating in the 118th Boston Marathon. The runners will be donating their funds to the Newton Firefighter's Children's Fund. The Newton Firefighters Children’s Fund was created in 2010 to help aid the families of recently fallen active Newton Fighters. Each holiday season, each child receives a check from the fund. They continue to be in the program until they reach the age of 21. Even though this is a small gesture it helps remind the families that they are remembered and will always be part of the Newton Fire Family. Due to the success of the fund, this year we will be extending our reach to include firefighters who fall in the line of duty throughout the state of Massachusetts. Families of the firefighters will receive a one-time check from the NFD Children’s fund.
